Would you like to become a trained mentor?

Mentoring can be an extremely rewarding professional experience. Not only do mentors play a crucial role in the training process of student teachers and act as a model for effective teaching, they also gain the opportunity to reflect upon the practice of teaching (including their own practice!) and keep up to date with evolving educational developments. Mentors need to be supportive and encouraging, but must also be able to challenge trainee teachers with constructive feedback so that they develop the necessary teaching skills and strategies to become effective teachers. Mentors are key facilitators in schools, often liaising with school staff and senior managers to ensure the smooth running of the teaching practice placement.

PGCESpain coordinates the involvement and training of mentors/subject tutors and local area coordinators in participating training schools all across Spain. PGCESpain pays mentor teachers and participating schools according to the number of trainee teachers taken on and the level of involvement required by the mentor.

As the PGCE course develops across Spain, PGCESpain aims increase funding to participating schools and their mentors/tutors, relative to the success of the scheme, and to offer further employment opportunities and rewarding career development across Spain. PGCESpain also aims to broaden study opportunities available to participating schools and their staff in the form of CPD (Continuing Professional Development) courses and qualifications such as Masters in Education.

This is a nationwide developmental project and both schools and teachers are welcome to suggest initiatives.
